Mobile locksmith service
Zillmere
A change of tenant or household is when keys, locks and screen doors may all need attention at once. The job starts with who still holds a key and ends with a handover both sides can account for.

Start with what changed
What has to be settled at a handover?
Handovers go wrong when one item is assumed to cover another. The keys, the main lock and the screen door are separate things, and each one needs its own answer.
What should I tell the locksmith?
Describe the property, the doors involved, what the key or lock is doing and who needs access. You do not need to identify the lock type yourself.
Repair, rekey or replace?
The right path depends on whether the hardware is still serviceable, whether old keys must stop working and whether the current lock still suits the door.
A clearer decision

Keys in circulation
You cannot account for every copy
Keys are passed to family, neighbours, trades and previous occupants, and the trail goes cold. Retiring those keys by rekeying the entry locks is usually enough: the lock stays in place and only the keying changes.
The practical next stepOnly the keys you hand out still work.
Screen and security doors
The screen door no longer lines up
Screen doors carry their own latch and striker, and they take the knocks on a busy entry. A screen door that needs lifting, slamming or holding shut is a separate fix from the main lock, even though both sit on the same opening.
The practical next stepScreen door closing and latching as it should.
The handover record
The next occupant needs a clear starting point
A short written record of what was changed, which door each key opens and how many keys were issued removes guesswork later. It also gives the other side of the handover something to check the keys against.
The practical next stepBoth parties working from the same list.
Local service planning
Zillmere tenancy and household changes
Zillmere is postcode 4034 and is covered by the mobile service from Chermside West. At a tenancy or household change, the useful distinction is between keys that must stop working, hardware that needs repair and doors controlled as shared property.
Tenants, owners and property managers
Who pays for and approves a key change depends on the arrangement. Tenants should raise it with the property manager or owner first, and owners changing between occupants should decide the scope before the outgoing keys are collected.
Units and shared entries
Where the address is a unit or part of a shared building, the front gate and common doors are usually managed separately from the door of the unit itself. Knowing which doors you control keeps the work to the right side of that line.
Booking around a move
It is easier to change the entry locks after the outgoing occupant has returned their keys and before the next set is handed out. Say the move dates when booking, so the work falls in the right place.

Service option
Re-Keying
The standard handover job. The entry locks stay on the doors and the keying is changed, so keys held by the previous occupant or anyone else stop working without new hardware.

Screen Door Repairs
Latches, strikers, rollers and closing problems on screen and security doors. These parts wear more than the main lock, because the screen door is the one everyone actually uses.

Real Estate Solutions
Key changes and lock work for rental properties, where the approval sits with the owner or property manager and the property needs to be left ready for the next occupant.

Lock Changing
For the handover where the existing lock is worn, damaged or unsuitable as well as carrying keys that need retiring. The hardware is replaced rather than rekeyed.

What happens next
How a handover key change runs
- 01 / Step
Confirm the property and the approval
Say whether the property is rented or owned, who has agreed to the work and which doors are included. For a rental, have the property manager or owner confirm the scope before a time is set.
- 02 / Step
Look at the entry, screen door and second doors
The main entry, the screen door on the same opening and any secondary doors are checked together, along with how each closes. Locks that are working do not need to be included.
- 03 / Step
Rekey or change, then hand over keys
The work is done on the doors that need it, each lock is tested open and shut, and the keys are counted out. If a written list of doors and keys is useful, ask for one at the visit.
Useful guidance
Before the keys are handed over
What a property manager needs from the job
Property managers want the scope agreed in writing and the work done between occupants. Rekeying the entry locks is the usual minimum, with secondary doors and window locks considered if they were keyed to the same set.
Screen doors share the opening, not the key
A screen door latch is separate from the main lock, and matching them onto one key is only possible where the hardware supports it. If the screen door has its own key, that is normal. What matters is that both doors close and latch reliably.
Spare keys and who keeps them
Decide who holds a spare before the handover finishes rather than after. A copy left with a neighbour, a cleaner or a tradesperson is the kind of key that is forgotten a year later, and it is why a rekey gets repeated at the next change of occupant.
Useful answers
Zillmere locksmith questions.
If your situation is different, tell us what changed and what you need the doors or keys to do.
Should a rental be rekeyed between tenants?
It is the usual practice, because nobody can be sure how many copies of the old keys exist. Rekeying the entry locks retires those keys without replacing hardware. The property manager or owner should confirm the scope first.
Can the screen door use the same key as the front door?
Sometimes, where the screen door hardware accepts a matching cylinder or can be supplied with one. If it cannot, the screen door keeps its own key. Either way, the latch and striker need to line up so the door closes without being forced.
How many keys should be handed over?
Enough for the occupants, plus any that the agreement requires, such as a set for the property manager. Work out the number before the visit so the keys can be prepared with the lock.
What if only the screen door is faulty?
That can be the whole job. A screen door that drops, drags or will not latch is a repair on its own, separate from the main lock. Mention it when booking so the right parts come along.
Does the property manager have to be told?
For a rental, yes. Approval and any record keeping sit with the owner or property manager, and they may also hold the keys for access. Getting that cleared first avoids a wasted visit.
