Locksmith Services North Brisbane
Lock installation. North Brisbane.
A door with no lock, a lock that no longer suits the door, or hardware that has to come off during a renovation. Fitting a lock properly is about the door as much as the lock itself.
Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm · Mobile service

Start with the outcome
What is the lock being fitted for?
A new lock on a new door and a replacement on an old one are different jobs. What the door is made of, how it closes and what else is already fitted all affect the hardware that can be used.
What this service helps you decide
Start with the door and what is fitted to it now. Whether a lock is being added, swapped for a different type or replaced after failure, the door's material, thickness and existing openings decide what will fit and hold. Tell us the door, the lock you have in mind and whether existing keys on the property need to keep working.
Tell us what you need →What should I mention first?
Tell us the suburb, the door or access point involved, what has changed and the result you need. That gives us a useful starting point without asking you to diagnose the hardware.

A door that has never been lockable
Fit a new lock
A new build, a renovated opening, a rear or side door, a shed or a store room that needs securing. The door is prepared and the lock fitted to suit how the door is actually used, including whether it is opened many times a day.
The outcomeA door that locks properly, rather than hardware forced onto an opening it does not suit.
Hardware that no longer suits the door
Change the type of lock
Where a second locking point is needed, a lever should replace a knob, or the current lock has become unsuitable, the new hardware has to match the door's construction and thickness. Older doors sometimes need more preparation than expected.
The outcomeA lock matched to the opening, with fixings that suit the door rather than the first product available.
A property that should use one key
Plan the keying before fitting
Where several doors need to work from one key, the choice of lock and the keying are decided together before anything is installed. Locks bought independently often cannot be brought onto the same key later.
The outcomeLocks that suit each door and can still be keyed alike afterwards, instead of a mix that cannot.

What happens next
From first enquiry to a fitted lock
- 01 / Step
Tell us about the door
Say whether the door is existing or new, what it is made of, whether it currently locks and what you want the lock to do. Mention any hardware already bought, including the make and model.
- 02 / Step
Measure the door and opening
Door thickness, existing openings, the way the door sits in its frame and the space for the fixings are all checked. This is where a lock that seemed suitable on paper can be ruled in or out.
- 03 / Step
Confirm the lock and keying
The lock, the position on the door and the keying are agreed before fitting begins. Ask whether the work includes any door preparation and whether the new lock can match keys already in use on the property.
- 04 / Step
Install, then test the door closed
The lock is fitted, tried with the door standing open and then tried closed against the strike. Operation, alignment and the keys are checked before the job is finished.
Useful guidance
Before a lock is fitted
What to check on the door
Look at how the door closes. A door that has dropped, swells in wet weather or catches on the frame will not be fixed by a new lock, and a lock fitted to a misaligned door wears faster than it should. Note whether the existing lock sits loosely, whether the fixing holes have been enlarged by earlier work, and whether the door is solid or has a hollow core. Mention any of this when you book, along with the door's general condition, because it changes what can be fitted and what preparation the job needs.
Keys, keying and who needs access
Decide who needs a key before the locks are chosen. Where one key should open several doors, the locks are selected with that in mind, and where a door must stay on its own key, that is settled the same way. If the property already has locks in use, say so, because some new locks can be keyed to match and others cannot. Tenants should confirm with the property manager or owner before any lock is changed, and shared or common doors usually need the building's approval as well.
Useful answers
Lock Installation questions.
If your situation is different, describe the property, door and outcome in the enquiry form.
Can any lock be fitted to any door?
No. Door material, thickness, existing openings and the way the door closes all affect what can be installed. Some locks need a hole size or a depth the door does not have, and hardware forced onto an unsuitable opening causes problems with alignment and wear later on.
Will the new lock work with my existing keys?
Sometimes. Some locks can be keyed to match what is already on the property, and others use their own keyway and cannot be matched. Say at the start if keeping one key across several doors matters, so the lock choice takes it into account.
Do I need a second lock on the door?
It depends on the door and the entry. A second locking point can suit a solid external door, while a screen door or a glass door may not take one. The door is assessed on site before any extra hardware is suggested.
How should I prepare for the visit?
Clear access to the door and have any hardware you have bought, or its details, ready to show. Mention whether the door can currently be locked and whether anyone else needs a key, and confirm who can approve the work if the property is rented or managed.
What hours are lock installations booked?
Installations are booked Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm. Call during those hours or send an enquiry with the address, the number of doors and the type of lock you are considering, and note whether the door must remain usable during the visit.
