Mobile locksmith service
Beachmere
An entry has more parts than the lock itself: the screen door in front, the latch, the striker and the cylinder behind the key. Deciding whether a part should be repaired or replaced is the first question worth settling.

Start with what changed
When is a repair the right answer, and when is it not?
Most entry problems sit with a single part of the assembly. Working out which part is failing is the difference between a small repair and an unnecessary replacement.
What should I tell the locksmith?
Describe the property, the doors involved, what the key or lock is doing and who needs access. You do not need to identify the lock type yourself.
Repair, rekey or replace?
The right path depends on whether the hardware is still serviceable, whether old keys must stop working and whether the current lock still suits the door.
A clearer decision
When is a repair the right answer, and when is it not?

A stiff or gritty key turn
The cylinder has stopped turning smoothly
Damp air and salt dry out the workings of a cylinder, so the key starts to grind or stick. Cleaning and lubricating the mechanism often restores the movement on its own. Where the wear has gone further, the cylinder can be changed while the rest of the lock stays in place.
The practical next stepThe key turning cleanly again.
The screen door is failing
The outer door wears before the main lock
A screen or security door carries its own latch, striker and hinges, and takes far more use than the door behind it. A screen door that sags, drags or needs a lift to catch is a repair in its own right, not a reason to replace the main lock.
The practical next stepBoth doors on the opening working properly.
The lock itself has failed
Hardware past repair is worth replacing
A lock that has been forced, a handle pulled away from the door, or a case that no longer holds the bolt straight are reasons to replace hardware rather than repair it. Where the body is sound and only the keyway has worn, changing the cylinder is the smaller job.
The practical next stepA decision made on the part, not on guesswork.
Local service planning
Beachmere entry doors and coastal hardware
Beachmere is postcode 4510 and sits inside the area covered by the mobile service from Chermside West. A stiff key, worn cylinder, latch problem and surface wear can look similar at first, so the useful starting point is what the door and lock are actually doing.
Moisture shows as stiffness first
A cylinder that has become stiff is usually asking for cleaning and lubrication rather than replacement. Catching it early is what keeps a working lock working.
Look at the screen door on the same opening
Where a screen or security door sits in front of the main door, both need to close cleanly for the entry to work. The outer door is the one that moves, so it is often the true source of a problem blamed on the lock.
Settle repair or replacement before agreeing
It helps to know which part has actually failed before new hardware is discussed. A great deal of entry work comes down to a striker, a latch or a cylinder.

What happens next
From a sticky entry to a settled one
- 01 / Step
Describe what the door is doing
Say whether the key grinds, whether the screen door closes and catches on its own, and when it last worked properly. That description usually points straight at the part involved.
- 02 / Step
Identify which part has failed
The cylinder, latch, striker, hinges and screen door are checked as one assembly, so the failing part is identified rather than assumed. Locks still doing their job are left alone.
- 03 / Step
Repair or replace as agreed
The smaller job is done where it will last, and hardware is replaced where a repair would not hold. Both doors are tested open and shut before the entry is handed back.
Useful guidance
Getting the entry decision right
A coastal door ages faster than its lock
Moisture works on the moving parts long before it damages the structure of a door. Cleaning and lubricating a stiff mechanism is a small job that puts off the day the cylinder has to be replaced.
Repairing a door that will not line up
When a latch has to be forced, the internal parts of the lock wear out far sooner than normal use would cause. Correcting the alignment so the latch enters cleanly is what protects the hardware, and it is often the whole of the repair.
What replacement does not fix
New hardware will not fix a door that has dropped on its hinges or a screen door that no longer closes. Both are separate repairs, worth sorting at the same visit rather than after the new lock is fitted.
Useful answers
Beachmere locksmith questions.
If your situation is different, tell us what changed and what you need the doors or keys to do.
Why does my key stick in the lock?
Damp air dries out the internal parts of a cylinder, so the key begins to grind before anything actually breaks. Cleaning and lubricating the mechanism is the first step. If the wear has gone further, the cylinder is replaced and the rest of the lock stays in place.
Is it worth repairing an old lock or replacing it?
It depends on which part has failed. A sound lock body with a worn keyway is a cylinder change, the smaller job. A forced lock, a broken case or a handle pulled away from the door is a replacement, because a repair would not hold.
Can a screen door be repaired rather than replaced?
Usually, yes. Latches, strikers, rollers and closing hardware are all replaceable parts, so a screen door that has stopped catching is normally a repair. A new door only comes into it when the frame or the door leaf itself has failed.
Does a worn keyway mean new hardware?
No. Where the lock body is still sound, the cylinder that takes the key is changed on its own. That keeps the door, the handle and the existing fittings as they are, which is why the failing part matters more than the age of the lock.
What hours are Beachmere appointments available?
Locksmith appointments are booked Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm. Say whether the key grinds, whether the screen door catches, and which door the key belongs to when you get in touch, so the right parts come along.
