Lock Changing Services in North Brisbane
Changing locks is about who holds the keys. When a property changes hands, a key goes missing or the existing locks no longer suit the doors, the hardware is replaced so access starts again from a point you control.
Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm · Mobile service

Start with the outcome
Why are you changing the locks?
The reason decides how much actually has to change. Sometimes every external lock is replaced, sometimes the keys are changed instead, and sometimes only one door is involved. Start with the trigger.
What this service helps you decide
Change the locks on a property so that only your household or business holds working keys.
Tell us what you need →What should I mention first?
Tell us the suburb, the door or access point involved, what has changed and the result you need. That gives us a useful starting point without asking you to diagnose the hardware.

New property
You do not know who still holds keys
Whether you have just settled, started a lease or collected the keys, previous occupants, trades and agents may still have copies. Changing the locks on the external doors brings access back under your control, and it is worth doing before furniture and belongings arrive rather than after.
The outcomeAccess held by you and the people you choose.
Key lost or taken
A key is out of your hands
A missing key matters most on the door it opens. If the key works one door, that lock is the priority. If the same key operates several doors, or the property uses master keying, then the scope changes and the other doors need to be considered as well. Tell us how the key was lost and which doors it opened.
The outcomeThe affected doors secured, not only the nearest one.
Upgrading worn locks
The existing locks are old, basic or awkward
Latches and cylinders wear with use, and basic locks can be improved at the moment they are replaced anyway. This is the point to discuss deadlocks, keypad entry or hardware that suits how the door is actually used, rather than replacing like with like and revisiting it later.
The outcomeLocks that suit the door and the way you use it.

What happens next
From first call to key handover
- 01 / Step
Tell us about the property
Mention whether it is a house, unit, office or shop, how many external doors there are, and what prompted the change. If a key was lost, say which doors it opened and whether anyone else may have a copy.
- 02 / Step
Check each external door
Every external door is looked at, including the door type, the existing locks, the frame and how the door closes. A door that no longer shuts squarely will wear a new lock, so that is picked up before hardware is chosen.
- 03 / Step
Agree the locks
Decide which doors are changed and which hardware suits each one, along with how many keys are needed and whether any door is used by other people. Where the existing locks are sound, changing the keys instead may be the better answer.
- 04 / Step
Test and hand over
Each new lock is operated with the door open and closed and checked for smooth, consistent operation. Keys are handed over and any points to watch, such as a door that needs a firm pull, are explained before leaving.
Useful guidance
Before the locks are changed
Changing locks or rekeying?
These two jobs solve the same problem in different ways. Rekeying keeps the existing locks and changes which keys operate them, so the hardware is reused and the old keys stop working. Lock changing replaces the hardware itself, which is the better answer when locks are worn, damaged, unsuitable for the door or when you want a different type of lock. If the current locks are in good order and only the keying needs to change, rekeying is usually the more sensible option. If you are unsure which applies, describe the doors and the reason for the change.
What to settle before the visit
A few details make the visit run more smoothly. Count the external doors that need attention and note which ones are used by other people, such as a shared entry, a garage or a side gate. Decide how many keys you need and who should have them. If the property is rented, get approval from the owner or property manager first, and if the building is managed, check whether the entry hardware is part of a larger system before anything is swapped. Have access arranged for the day of the work.

Lock Changing questions.
If your situation is different, describe the property, door and outcome in the enquiry form.
When should locks be changed?
The common reasons are moving into a property, a key being lost or stolen, a break-in, or locks that are worn and no longer reliable. Some people also change locks simply because the existing ones are old and they want something better suited to the doors. Any of those is a reasonable trigger to have the doors looked at.
Is changing locks better than rekeying?
It depends on the state of the existing hardware. Rekeying keeps working locks and changes which keys operate them, which suits a property where the locks are sound and only the keying needs to change. Replacement is more suitable when the locks are worn, damaged or unsuitable, or when you want a different type of lock altogether.
Do all the locks need changing?
Not always. The doors that give access to the property matter most, so external doors and any door reached from outside are usually the priority. If one key opens several doors, then changing a single lock leaves the others working from the old key, and that is worth discussing before work starts.
Will I get keys for each lock?
Yes, new locks come with keys, and the number supplied depends on the lock. If you need several copies, or you want one key to operate more than one door where the hardware allows it, raise that before the work so the locks can be chosen with that in mind.
What about a rental or shared building?
For a rental, check with the property manager or owner before arranging anything, and for a shared building confirm who is responsible for the entry and whether the doors form part of a larger keying system. Getting that clear first avoids changing hardware that other people rely on or that the building manages itself.
